Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency is achieving significant results through ESG management.
The Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency has saved 30 million KRW in budget during the first quarter (January to March) through paperless administration and zero use of disposable products, initiatives implemented since early this year.
In line with the 'Gyeonggi RE100' carbon neutrality initiative, the agency has been making various efforts to practice carbon neutrality this year, including paperless accounting administration, introduction of digital signboards (high-efficiency LED), and zero use of disposable products.
Through paperless accounting administration, the agency revamped its system to electronically verify and complete accounting processes, becoming the first public institution in the province to produce and store all documents electronically without printing any paper since January this year.
As a result, the administrative processing time for cash handling and accounting decreased from 6.4 days in 2022 to 3.5 days, and paper usage dropped by 63%, reducing printing costs (including paper) by approximately 25 million KRW in the first quarter.
The agency is also implementing clean buildings without banners. Since last year, it has newly installed nine digital signboards in seven buildings in Gwanggyo and Pangyo, which began full operation in May. This enhances convenience for visitors, improves visibility, and boosts ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) eco-friendly management effects.
The digital signboards replace banners used in about 800 annual events held at the seven building rental facilities, creating a more pleasant environment. This is expected to save over 80 million KRW annually in banner costs for facility users and reduce waste from single-use banners.
Additionally, by restricting the use of disposable cups and containers within buildings introduced this year, the agency saved 5 million KRW in the first quarter.
Starting July, the agency will introduce a cloud-based information system that enables mobile work processing regardless of time and place, establishing a digital meeting infrastructure for all employees.
Kang Sung-cheon, head of the agency, stated, "ESG management is not just a trend but an essential requirement for the sustainable growth of the institution. We will focus all our capabilities on promoting various ESG management initiatives that residents can experience, such as paperless administration and the introduction of digital signboards."
