Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it has been solely selected in the Seoul area for the pilot project of the Personal Budget System for Persons with Disabilities, implemented by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and will start the project from the second half of this year.
The Personal Budget System for Persons with Disabilities is a system that allocates 20% of the disability activity support benefits as a personal budget, guaranteeing the right to choose services by allowing individuals to select and use goods and services necessary for daily and social activities according to their individual usage plans.
This pilot project for the Personal Budget System for Persons with Disabilities was selected in eight local governments nationwide, and Gangbuk-gu is the only district in Seoul to operate the pilot project. The project is scheduled to expand nationwide in 2026 through the pilot project from 2024 to 2025.
Participants in the Personal Budget System for Persons with Disabilities can purchase goods and services according to their usage plans, except for items not supported such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco, and receive reimbursement through post-settlement.
The total number of support recipients for the pilot project in Gangbuk-gu is 30, and if there are many applicants, recipients will be randomly selected considering the type of disability. Persons with disabilities who wish to participate in the pilot project can apply at the local community service center where their resident registration is located by the 31st.
The support recipients must be registered persons with disabilities under the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, beneficiaries of disability activity support services, and residents registered in Gangbuk-gu. Additionally, applicants must reside in Gangbuk-gu during the participation period of the pilot project.
