Dongdaemun-gu to Host Fashion Sewing Festival

Festival Promoting Fashion Sewing Industry with Clothing Exhibition and Flea Market at District Office on June 7
Raising Awareness of Sewing Industry and Boosting Pride of Small Sewing Entrepreneurs

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) will hold the 'Fashion Sewing Festival' on June 7th at the district office's multipurpose auditorium and plaza to revitalize the sewing industry.

The garment sewing industry accounts for about 40% of Dongdaemun-gu's manufacturing sector, with around 1,600 sewing companies currently maintaining their presence in the area. To support these sewing companies, the district opened the 'Fashion Sewing Complex Support Center' in January this year, providing one-stop services including smart garment manufacturing equipment, product development, and online marketing.

This 'Fashion Sewing Festival' was organized to raise interest in the sewing industry and boost the pride of small-scale fashion sewing businesses.

In March, the district recruited 17 local garment manufacturers to participate in the fashion sewing contest through the Sewing Association. On the day of the event, stylish garments, bags, shoes, and other items carefully made by 50 local companies, including contest participants, will be exhibited at the multipurpose auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office and the corridor art gallery.

Starting at 3:30 PM, the event will open with a pre-ceremony performance by a string quartet orchestra, followed by the contest awards ceremony. Judging will be conducted through expert evaluations and public voting.

At the district office plaza, a flea market will be held where visitors can purchase clothing, accessories, and bags made by fashion sewing companies at affordable prices. Additionally, various experience programs such as personal color diagnosis and keyring making will be available, along with food trucks.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Through this event, I hope to showcase the excellence of Dongdaemun-gu's sewing industry and provide an opportunity for sewing workers to unite and take pride in their work. We ask for the active interest and participation of sewing industry stakeholders and residents in this event, which was prepared for the vigorous leap forward of the sewing industry dreaming of revival."
