Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City signed a business agreement regarding the 'Installation and Operation of the Deullangnallang Community Center Health Promotion Room' at the district office reception room.
The signing ceremony was held with the attendance of Im Taek, District Mayor; Jo Soon-gye, President of Chosun University of Science and Technology; Seol Kyung-wan, Director of KBS Gwangju Broadcasting Station; Choi Yoon-gu, Executive Director of Social Cooperative Yeoro; Jang Il-yong, President of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Chapter of the Korean Physical Therapy Association; and Park Byung-chul, President of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Chapter of the Korea Specialty Construction Association.
The Deullangnallang Community Center Health Promotion Room is a facility established to alleviate social isolation of single-person households vulnerable to health issues in the jjokbangchon (small room villages) and to enable them to manage their physical and mental health independently. In particular, it is designed to allow residents to train their bodies and enjoy leisure activities on their own by installing customized health management equipment and creating spaces to activate leisure culture, thereby fostering a sense of existence and belonging.
With this agreement, Dong-gu will take charge of the overall operation of the Deullangnallang Community Center Health Promotion Room system, and Chosun University of Science and Technology agreed to support remodeling and the purchase of exercise equipment. Additionally, KBS Gwangju Broadcasting Station will produce and air the entire installation process through the KBS Byeolbyeoldabang program, and Social Cooperative Yeoro will be responsible for building management and program operation.
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Chapter of the Korean Physical Therapy Association will provide professional instructor support and exercise guidance, while the Gwangju Metropolitan City Chapter of the Korea Specialty Construction Association will contribute talent donation for partial interior remodeling.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "By creating the Deullangnallang Community Center Health Promotion Room together with institutions and organizations with expertise and experience in each field, we will be able to provide essential services to neighbors in need of care," adding, "We will do our best to provide administrative support to build a dense and seamless welfare safety net."
Meanwhile, as part of the Gwangju-style integrated care, Dong-gu opened and has been operating the Deullangnallang Community Center since March. It provides various convenience facilities and programs such as meals, laundry, showers, and a cafe for single-person households vulnerable to health issues, with an average daily usage of about 50 people.
