Gyeonggi Province is establishing six new metropolitan public bus routes and will begin phased operations.
The four routes starting service on June 1 are ▲ Daehwa-dong, Goyang City ~ Gyeonggi Provincial Government Northern Office (Route 3800) ▲ Jeongwang-dong, Siheung City ~ Pangyo 2nd Techno Valley (Route 3402) ▲ Neunggok Station, Siheung City ~ Pangyo 2nd Techno Valley (Route 3302) ▲ Sammi Market ~ Pangyo 2nd Techno Valley (Route 3202).
The two routes beginning service in July are Suwon Terminal, Suwon City ~ Goyang Terminal (Route 8450) and Jeongwang-dong, Siheung City ~ Seoksu Station (Route 3401).
Unlike the privately operated permanent license system, Gyeonggi Province’s metropolitan public bus system is a model where the bus routes are publicly owned, and limited licenses are granted to transportation operators selected through competitive bidding.
Gyeonggi Province expects that the operation of these new routes will greatly improve accessibility between major areas within the province. In particular, routes connecting to Pangyo 2nd Techno Valley are anticipated to reduce congestion during peak commuting hours.
Kim Sang-su, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Transportation Bureau, stated, "The opening of these new routes will significantly enhance transportation convenience for Gyeonggi residents," adding, "We will continue to expand public transportation routes steadily in the future."
