Gangnam-gu Hosts Green Festival... Public, Private, and Academic Sectors Unite for Carbon Neutral Future

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold the "Gangnam Green Festival" at the COEX East Plaza on June 3rd from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM to commemorate the 28th World Environment Day.

District and 10 Companies Including POSCO International Pledge to Achieve Carbon Neutrality through ESG Agreements

This festival is planned as a collaborative platform where the public, private, and academic sectors join hands to pledge carbon neutrality practices for future generations. At the opening ceremony, Gangnam-gu and 10 companies will sign an agreement to promote ESG management for carbon neutrality and commit to participating in the "One Company, One Stream Care" campaign. Participating companies include Grand Korea Leisure, Dongkook Pharmaceutical, BFG Retail, Ottogi, OB Beer, Government Legal Affairs Corporation, Cheonma Concrete Industry, Canon Korea, POSCO International, and Korea District Heating Corporation Gangnam Branch.

Children, the future generation leaders, will read the "Carbon Neutrality Practice Pledge" together with their parents and deliver it to the district mayor. In response, the mayor will present air-purifying plants. Then, all attendees including the district officials, companies, children, and parents will gather to create carbon footprints through palm and sole painting performances, demonstrating their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and concluding the opening ceremony.

14 Exhibition and Experience Booths Featuring Companies and Environmental Organizations

Various exhibitions and experiential events for carbon neutrality practices will be held with participation from companies and environmental organizations. The ESG and CSR projects of 11 companies, including SK Telecom, which signed an ESG management business agreement with Gangnam-gu last April, and the 10 companies participating in this agreement ceremony, will be introduced. Additionally, four companies including SK Telecom will set up promotional event booths and distribute upcycled and zero-waste products.

Five local environmental organizations will operate programs such as ▲eco-friendly soap ▲climate crisis worry dolls ▲coffee clay keyrings ▲eco-friendly handkerchief making, and distribute air-purifying plants. At the social market, visitors can experience and purchase upcycled and zero-waste products. The Gangnam-gu promotional booth will promote proper waste separation methods and eco mileage programs.

Furthermore, a magic show incorporating environmental protection storytelling has been prepared so that family visitors can enjoy it with their children. About 40 green artworks created by children from 24 daycare centers and kindergartens participating in this year’s Carbon Neutrality Academy will be exhibited. An art wall photo zone featuring the event slogan will also be set up to commemorate Environment Day.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “Last April, Gangnam-gu launched the Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee and is conducting a service to establish a mid- to long-term basic plan, taking the first step toward becoming a carbon-neutral city by 2050.” He added, “Through this public-private-academic cooperation system, we will activate ESG management and open a sustainable future that residents can feel.”
