Popular YouTuber Breaks Down in Tears During Broadcast, Police Also Dispatched

Oking, Cryptocurrency Scam Controversy Leads to Significant Subscriber Loss

Popular YouTuber Oking (30, real name Oh Byung-min), who has been embroiled in controversy over so-called 'scam coins (cryptocurrency fraud),' suddenly burst into tears during a live broadcast and made remarks that seemed to hint at extreme self-harm, causing a commotion that led to police intervention.

Throughout the live broadcast on the 27th, Oking showed signs of mental distress, crying uncontrollably. On that day, he apologized, saying, "I shouldn't have lied, and I am truly sorry," adding, "I thought the image I showed you all for six years was my true self, but apparently it was not. It was all a lie, and I realized that too late."

He also apologized for the scam coin allegations at the center of the controversy. He said, "I thought that as long as the legal issues I was most worried about were clarified, everything would be fine. That was not the problem," and lamented, "I lied once and twice, so it's natural that no matter what I say, my fans won't listen. It's natural for fans to leave the fan cafe, but I just couldn't bear it."

He exhaled heavily and continuously blamed himself, saying, "(I caused) this outcome, but I just can't endure it." At that moment, Oking's younger sister and YouTuber, Oqueen (28, real name Oh Hye-rin), burst into his room with the police.

Oqueen grabbed Oking's clothes and shouted, "Please save him, oppa, do you know how I endured this?" Afterwards, Oking asked the police to "turn off the broadcast." The live stream abruptly ended as the police were seen turning off the power.

Oking, a popular YouTuber with about 2 million subscribers, became embroiled in controversy after it was revealed late that he was registered as a director of the blockchain platform 'Winners,' which is suspected of being a scam coin, back in February. At the time, Oking claimed he was also a victim and filed a complaint with the police against Winners for violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud) and coercion.

However, the former CEO of Winners, Mr. Choi, released messages exchanged between himself and Oking, countering that Oking was actively involved in the business. He also claimed that Oking was playing the so-called 'victim cosplay.'

As suspicions grew, Oking's fans began to leave. The number of subscribers to Oking's YouTube channel, which once exceeded 2 million, has now dropped to about 1.67 million.
