Crackdown on Illegal Dumping Sites, Formation and Operation of Self-Inspection Teams
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will conduct a special crackdown on environmental pollution during the summer rainy season, targeting major riversides, wastewater and air emission facilities, private sewage, livestock manure discharge facilities, and waste disposal sites.
This crackdown aims to prevent pollutants from flowing into public waters along with rainwater through pre-inspection of emission facilities within workplaces, and to proactively prevent the occurrence of green algae and illegal environmental pollution activities.
The county will focus on inspecting whether emission and prevention facilities are operating normally, the installation of unauthorized or unreported emission facilities, and compliance with emission standards. It will also organize and operate its own inspection team to crack down on workplaces that illegally dump pollutants taking advantage of the rainy season and summer heavy rains.
From June to August, after a period of prior publicity and guidance, intensive inspections and monitoring activities will be carried out targeting areas at risk of pollutant leakage. In addition, restoration of damaged prevention facilities due to heavy rains and technical support will be provided simultaneously.
Strong measures such as prosecution and administrative sanctions under relevant laws will be taken against workplaces found to be in violation.
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "Since thorough inspection and monitoring are limited by restricted administrative resources during the special crackdown period, the thorough reporting spirit of residents and responsible environmental awareness of business owners are required."
