Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief So Byung-yong) announced on the 28th that it held a 'Water Leisure Equipment Accident Prevention Meeting' on the 25th, attended by about 20 members of the Hwabuk Leisure Boat Association who own personal leisure boats.

This meeting was held to spread a safety culture and prepare measures to prevent accidents, as the number of individual leisure activity participants who enjoy squid fishing using leisure boats is expected to surge from May to August.
The main topics included ▲pre-departure inspection items for water leisure equipment ▲education to prevent leisure boat drifting accidents ▲encouragement to activate voluntary reporting for short-distance departures and arrivals ▲installation and operation methods of the BadaNavi app ▲explanation of prohibited areas for water leisure activities in Jeju City ▲collection of safety system improvements and suggestions.
Additionally, waterproof packs, nighttime distress signal devices, wet tissues, and other promotional items necessary for leisure activities were distributed, and a safety campaign was conducted simultaneously.
Jeju Maritime Police set June and July as a special crackdown period for water leisure equipment, planning to strengthen patrols at major departure and arrival points for leisure equipment and operate patrol vessels focusing on areas densely populated with leisure equipment and places with high accident risks.
A Jeju Maritime Police official stated, “The main causes of water leisure equipment drifting accidents are largely due to users’ poor inspections and lack of piloting skills, so improving safety awareness alone significantly enhances accident prevention. We expect that this meeting among Hwabuk Leisure Boat Association members will help spread safety awareness among personal leisure equipment owners and prevent accidents.”
