Professor Ryu Garam of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital Wins Excellence Award for Paper at International Conference

The 32nd Korean Society of Upper Gastrointestinal and Helicobacter Studies

Professor Ryu Garam of the Department of Gastroenterology at Chosun Jeonnam National University Hospital received the Excellent Paper Award at the 32nd Korean Society of Upper Gastrointestinal Tract and Helicobacter International Conference (HUG 2024).

Professor Ryu, along with Professor Lee Wansik, was honored with the award for their paper titled "Clinical Characteristics of Cytomegalovirus Disease of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract: A 10-Year Multicenter Retrospective Study," which examined cases occurring in the Honam region.

The research team analyzed the characteristics of cytomegalovirus infection of the upper gastrointestinal tract occurring not only in immunosuppressed patients but also in immunocompetent patients.

Additionally, based on long-term follow-up results, they developed detailed guidelines regarding prognosis, contributing to an enhanced understanding of this rare disease.
