Hwacheon Village Agricultural Culture and First Event Scheduled for June 1
The Haman Hwacheon Nongak Preservation Association will host the first event of the '2024 Haman Saengsaeng Masil Festival with Haman Hwacheon Nongak' on June 1 at Hwacheon Village in Haman.
The '2024 Haman Saengsaeng Masil Festival with Haman Hwacheon Nongak' is sponsored by the National Heritage Administration, Gyeongsangnam-do, Haman County, and the Haman County Council.
This project is a public contest by the National Heritage Administration, aiming to discover local cultural heritage and allow people to experience and appreciate its value through the stories and meanings embedded within. This year, the festival will be held in Hwacheon Village, Haman, the home of the Gyeongsangnam-do Intangible Heritage, Haman Hwacheon Nongak, with the theme of agricultural culture.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 1. The morning program includes rice paddy and field farming experiences, while the afternoon offers a variety of agricultural culture experiences, exhibitions, and tours.
At the rice paddy experience site, participants will plant rice seedlings with Hwacheon Village residents and learn traditional rice planting songs. A simple ritual will be held in front of the village's guardian Dangsan tree, followed by traditional rice planting along the string while singing together. At the field farming experience site, there will be simple crop harvesting, photo time at the village market and well, harvesting experiences with various crops such as lettuce and potatoes, a crop photo zone, and a communal meal cooked in a traditional cauldron.

The afternoon program includes a seed exhibition hall, craft workshops, traditional play experiences, village play experiences, the Aragaya Market, a group traditional play competition, and a performance of Haman Hwacheon Nongak, among other activities.
In particular, the native seed experience exhibition hall will be operated by the “Arassi Atdeuri Community,” offering lectures on native seeds to overcome the climate crisis, explaining the importance of preserving native seeds, sparking visitors' interest, and promoting agricultural culture by introducing crops produced in Hwacheon Village.
Additionally, the Aragaya Market, held at the Milsung Park Clan Chungheon Gongpa Ancestral House, will provide a unique experience.
After various experiences, exhibitions, and tours, souvenirs will be given to pre-registered participants. Souvenirs include shopping bags and specially made Nongak character Shrinkles keyrings.
Meanwhile, under the slogan “The village must thrive for cultural heritage to thrive!” this Haman Saengsaeng Festival is planned as two events: the first on June 1 and the second on October 19. Updates about the event can be quickly found on the Haman Hwacheon Nongak SNS channels.
