Preparing for a Bountiful Harvest: County Governor and Fruit Farmers Join Forces
On the 23rd, Woosunghee, the mayor of Yeongam County, visited orchard farms in Deokjin-myeon that cultivate Daebong persimmons and pears to check the growth status of the fruit trees and communicate with the farmers.
Orchard farms in Deokjin-myeon are currently engaged in various farming activities as they welcome the abundant spring season, with the end of May approaching.
Persimmon farms are performing "jeokroe," which involves removing flower buds during the blooming period and managing pollination, while pear farms are hastening "jeokgwa," thinning the fruit before bagging, and controlling black spot disease.

Mayor Woosunghee shared and communicated on-site about the farmers' work progress, the extent of pest and disease occurrence, and the distribution and sales status of the fruits.
The farmers candidly expressed to Mayor Woosunghee the difficulties and concerns in farming caused by climate crises, such as the increase in persimmon anthracnose and pear black spot disease, shortage of pollinating bees, and the need for variety changes.
In response, Mayor Woosunghee promised, "We will enhance Yeongam County's agricultural competitiveness through agricultural policies that reflect the opinions of farmers, contributing to increased farm income," and pledged to "explore and implement various methods."
Mayor Woosunghee's efforts to actively engage in communication and address current issues in the agricultural sector through close cooperation with local farms are expected to contribute to the future development of regional agriculture and the stable income growth of farmers.
