Pushing a Stroller, Ice-filled Cup Spills in Front of Cafe: "Mother, Kids Are Watching and Learning"

Woman Throwing Trash Draws Netizens' Criticism
Summer Brings Overflow of 'Beverage Waste' and Foul Odor

A video capturing a mother throwing a disposable cup with leftover drink in front of a cafe has drawn criticism from netizens. Recently, the owner of a cafe in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, shared CCTV footage on their social media (SNS) with the caption, "That child will surely grow up to be a wonderful person." The footage was taken around 6 p.m. on the 18th. A woman was seen pushing a stroller past the cafe, with two boys sitting in the stroller.

The woman threw the disposable cup lid onto the ground, then scattered the contents inside the cup, including ice, onto the cafe deck. At the same time, she threw the cup away and casually pushed the stroller away as if nothing had happened.

The woman's nonchalant behavior while pushing the stroller again drew criticism from netizens. Comments included, "Even if babies can't speak, they see everything as they grow up," "It's hard to do bad things in front of your children, so this is just embarrassing the family," and "I wonder what that mother will say when her child grows up and behaves like this."

Meanwhile, as the weather warms up and it becomes a good season for walks, 'beverage trash' is flooding the streets. For beverage waste such as coffee, the contents should be emptied separately, and disposable cups made of plastic or paper should be recycled properly. However, it is common to see drinks carelessly discarded near subway stations or roadsides, and trash left anywhere without proper disposal. Among these, some citizens’ leftover beverage cups in trash bins are becoming a major source of foul odors.
