Dongjak-gu Forms Unique 'University Student Volunteer Group'... 194 Members Begin Activities

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that the "University Student Volunteer Group," composed of local youth who will lead the culture of sharing, is beginning full-scale activities.

The "Dongjak University Student Volunteer Group" plays a role in practicing sharing through voluntary volunteer activities that utilize students' majors and aptitudes, and participates in solving local community issues. It consists of a total of 194 students who either reside in the area or are enrolled in universities within the district.

On the 25th, the district held an inauguration ceremony near Hangang Nadeulgil attended by Mayor Park Il-ha of Dongjak-gu and university volunteer groups, officially starting their activities.

At the event, there was an explanation of university student volunteer-related projects and a time to foster harmony among participants. Their first volunteer activity involved "jupging" ? picking up street trash ? and environmental cleanup around Nodeul Station, Dongjak Station, and Heukseok Hyosajeong-gil area.

Going forward, the district will actively promote various programs in collaboration with the Dongjak-gu Volunteer Center, including ▲club planning type ▲social welfare policy-linked type ▲corporate social responsibility-linked type ▲joint theme type, so that the university student volunteer group can carry out meaningful activities throughout the region.

First, the "club planning type" involves forming teams of three or more members to select themes such as local issues or environmental and social topics, and directly plan and operate volunteer programs to bring new vitality to the community.

Additionally, activities linked to local welfare policies requiring human resources, such as filial piety call centers and home repair volunteer services, will be conducted, and programs that utilize university students' majors, such as medical volunteer activities for the elderly, will also be developed.

Along with this, various linked volunteer activities will be promoted, including social contribution activities targeting neighbors in need in cooperation with local public institutions and companies.

Furthermore, four times this year, themed joint volunteer activities that are easily accessible to youth in daily life?such as environmental cleanup, rainwater drain inspection, participation in welfare sharing festivals, and support for vulnerable groups?will be conducted to lower the threshold for volunteering.

In the future, the district plans to hold a performance sharing meeting to review past activities and share excellent cases that contributed to spreading the culture of sharing.

The district intends to continuously operate the university student volunteer group annually to expand opportunities for youth participation in volunteer activities.

Mayor Park Il-ha of Dongjak-gu said, "Through this university student volunteer group, I hope young people will take an interest in the local community and grow into talents who lead positive change," adding, "We will continue to implement various policies to spread a culture of sharing that delivers warmth throughout Dongjak."
