Dongjak-gu Supports 'Dinner Lunchboxes' for 'Night Study High School Students'...Nation's First Dongjak-gu has launched the 'Dongjak-style High School Dinner Lunchbox' support project. Example of a dinner lunchbox. Provided by Dongjak-gu.

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) is launching the nation’s first ‘Dongjak-style High School Dinner Lunchbox Support Project.’ On the 28th, the district announced that starting from the 27th of this month, it is piloting a program to support the cost of dinner lunchboxes and food ingredients for high schools within the district to reduce private education expenses and address educational disparities.

The ‘Dongjak-style High School Dinner Lunchbox Support Project’ provides an evening meal designed with the necessary nutrients for exam students. This considers the situation where schools find it difficult to operate dinner meals, and students studying late skip meals or rely on convenience stores nearby.

Previously, the district conducted a demand survey targeting seven high schools within the district to identify participation and student numbers and signed agreements with schools that wished to participate. By investing district funds, Dongjak-gu high school students and their parents only need to pay 4,000 KRW per meal to receive a dinner lunchbox prepared by professional nutritionists or meals supplied by the school.

Initially, before the summer vacation, the district will distribute lunchboxes made with fresh ingredients and customized nutritious menus to 90 students at Sudo Girls’ High School and Yeongdeungpo High School. Although the price per lunchbox is 9,000 KRW, the district supports 5,000 KRW, so parents only pay 4,000 KRW. To protect the environment, the lunchbox containers are reusable rather than disposable, participating in the ‘Zero Waste’ challenge to reduce trash.

Additionally, for high schools within the district that wish to operate dinner meals, the district will support the cost of purchasing food ingredients.

After a two-month pilot operation, a survey will be conducted to collect feedback and reflect improvements. From September this year, the project will be fully promoted targeting high schools within the district that wish to participate. Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “We will provide dinner with essential nutritious meals so that Dongjak-gu exam students can maintain good condition and focus solely on their studies.” He added, “We will continue to support quality educational projects so that the youth, the future generation, can freely pursue their dreams.”
