Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will have civil servants wear shirts printed with poetry verses and illustrations starting from the 27th of this month to foster a culture of mutual respect and consideration between civil petitioners and public officials.
As the difficulties faced by civil servants due to malicious petitions involving verbal abuse and assault have recently emerged as a social issue, this idea is being tried as part of a campaign to reduce the emotional labor damage experienced by civil servants in charge of petitions.
The "Wear Respect: Poetry Shirt" campaign was supported by the Mind Happiness Social Cooperative (CEO Lee Gye-hoon), which sympathized with this purpose and produced 100 poetry shirts printed with beautiful verses and illustrations.
One hundred employees working in departments handling civil petitions, including the Civil Affairs and Passport Division on the first floor of the district office, as well as the Real Estate Information Division, Automobile Civil Affairs Division, Housing Division, Property Tax Division, and Regional Economy Division, will wear the poetry shirts every Monday.
The shirts feature three phrases such as "I am truly happy to meet you today," "Come on, smile like this. It’s my secret to happiness," and "Come on, smile like this. If you keep doing that, you will become happy," along with illustrations of a person with charming smiling eyes, a smiling cat, and a bear. The warm phrases aim to leave an impression on both civil servants and petitioners, serving as an opportunity to understand each other's perspectives, which is the goal of this campaign.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, "When employees are happy at work, administrative services that satisfy residents can be delivered," and added, "Through this campaign, the Civil Petition Adjustment Committee, and Civil Petitioners’ Day, we will systematically respond to malicious petitions to create an atmosphere where employees can work with a sense of fulfillment and pride."
