The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced on the 28th that it held a "Meeting with U.S. Congressional Aides" chaired by Chairman Yoon Jin-sik on the 27th at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where they requested friendly support for South Korea on current issues such as the economy and security.

In his welcoming remarks, Chairman Yoon asked for efforts to pass the "Korea Partnership Act," which was introduced last year in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and to create a favorable business environment for Korean companies operating in the U.S. The "Korea Partnership Act" includes provisions to provide visas annually to 15,000 Korean professionals.
The meeting was attended by eight congressional aides (chiefs of staff). Among them were the chief of staff for Representative Young Kim, a Republican who introduced the "Korea Partnership Act," as well as chiefs of staff for Representatives Jimmy Gomez and Grace Meng, Democrats who co-sponsored the bill.
Jonathan Day, chief of staff for Republican Representative Joe Wilson, said, "I was greatly impressed by South Korea’s economic development during this visit," adding, "I look forward to continued close cooperation between our two countries in various fields such as security and the economy."
KITA announced plans to hold a "Networking Meeting with U.S. Congressional Aides" on the 29th, attended by about 20 people including domestic companies operating in the U.S. and representatives from U.S. state government offices, to support the establishment of networks between domestic companies and U.S. political circles.
