Nowon-gu Mayor Oh Seung-rok Attends S-DBC (Seoul Digital Bio City) Corporate Briefing at Changdong Vehicle Depot Area, Expresses Strong Willingness to Cooperate
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon Announces Innovative Development Plans and Support Measures, Attracting Interest from Over 100 Companies, Exceeding Initial Expectations
Nowon-gu's Persistent Efforts to Attract High-Tech Industry Jobs Pay Off
On the 27th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District Office in Seoul, attended the ‘Corporate Briefing Session for the Creation of S-DBC (Seoul Digital Bio City) Future Industrial Hub in the Changdong Vehicle Depot Area’ held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and expressed his strong commitment to actively cooperate for the successful promotion of the project.
At the briefing session, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon personally explained the innovation in the development method and key support measures. The four major support measures announced by Mayor Oh are ▲ supply of corporate land at cost price and tax benefits ▲ long-term lease for small and medium-sized enterprises ▲ application of balanced development white site ▲ construction of ‘Seoul-type Lab Central’ through reinvestment of public contribution funds.
Nowon District, where the S-DBC site is located, is also filled with high expectations. The district government is putting all its efforts into attracting companies to the S-DBC site because it considers this project as a core initiative to break away from being a bedroom community and to design Nowon’s 100-year future. To leap forward as the ‘Northeastern Central City’ with jobs and premium residential complexes close to workplaces, the district has long advocated attracting advanced industries to the Changdong Vehicle Depot.
In particular, focusing on the growth potential of the ‘bio new industry,’ the district benchmarked Boston, the world’s number one bio-industrial complex, last year, signed an MOU with the Korean American Bio Industry Association, hosted a lecture by Professor Kim Jong-sung of Boston University, and held expert forums, aiming to introduce a ‘Boston-style Lab Central.’
Furthermore, to smoothly promote the organic convergence of industry-academia-research-hospital (産-學-硏-病), the district established a dedicated corporate attraction team called the ‘Bio Planning Team’ through an organizational restructuring in January this year and is also conducting a project promotion strategy study.
A district official stated, "We will continue to actively cooperate with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and spare no administrative or financial support," adding, "We will support networking among local universities, companies, and hospitals, and in the long term, strive to attract global big pharma companies."
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District has explained the advantages of Nowon as a promising location for companies, focusing on ▲ transportation and urban growth potential ▲ residential conditions, based on meetings with various corporate representatives.
It is a one-hour distance to Incheon International Airport via the Metropolitan Outer Ring Expressway, and the subway lines 1, 4, 6, and 7 connect to the downtown area. Additionally, the newly launched GTX-C line will allow reaching Samsung Station in Gangnam within 10 minutes. The northeastern light rail line, which has three transfer stations in the area, is progressing normally, and once the underground construction of the Eastern Arterial Road is completed, it will be possible to reach Gangnam by car within 10 minutes.
Thanks to the groundbreaking policies of the government, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Nowon District supporting rapid reconstruction and redevelopment, the improvement of residential conditions is also a major advantage. While reconstruction of about 40 apartment complexes is being promoted simultaneously, high-quality premium residential complexes are expected to be supplied by the time S-DBC is completed through projects such as Baeksa Village, Kwangwoon University Station area development, and Sanggye Redevelopment Promotion District redevelopment, according to the district.
The living infrastructure that residents take pride in is also a strength. The natural environment centered on four mountains and four streams, along with cultural events such as the ‘Craft Beer Festival,’ ‘Coffee Festival,’ and ‘Bulgamsan Azalea Festival,’ are examples of how the region’s cultural, economic, and natural resources have been developed into cultural items, and the achievements as a cultural city are recognized by the residents.
The educational environment at Eunnhang Intersection in Junggye-dong, one of Seoul’s three major educational hubs, and the child-friendly environment created by the local-centered care policy are also noteworthy factors.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon District said, “I am grateful to Mayor Oh Se-hoon of Seoul for promising groundbreaking support along with the recently announced ‘Gangbuk Renaissance Era’ plan by the Seoul Metropolitan Government,” adding, “Since the city’s plan shares the same vision as the aspirations of our residents, we will do our best to ensure the success of the S-DBC project.”
