A PD involved in the so-called 'prosecutor impersonation case' of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, refuted Lee's claim of 'false accusation' as a lie.
The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Chief Judge Kim Dong-hyun) conducted witness questioning of PD Choi Cheol-ho on the 27th during the continued trial of Lee's perjury coaching charge case.
PD Choi was sentenced to a suspended sentence the following year for impersonating a prosecutor by calling Kim Byung-ryang, then mayor of Seongnam, in collusion with Lee while investigating preferential sales allegations at Bundang Parkview in 2002. Lee, who was arrested along with PD Choi, was fined 1.5 million won.
Later, during the 2018 Gyeonggi Province governor election, Lee mentioned regarding this criminal record, "I did not do it; the PD impersonated, and I was just helping because I was being interviewed nearby," claiming he was falsely accused.
Regarding this, PD Choi said in court that day, "That is a clear lie."
He also denied Lee's claim that during the 2002 investigation, PD Choi was framed as the main culprit in exchange for Kim withdrawing the accusation and KBS giving a minor disciplinary action.
Lee is accused of coaching perjury during the trial for falsely stating in the 2018 Gyeonggi Province governor election broadcast debate that he was falsely accused regarding the prosecutor impersonation criminal record.
The prosecution charged Lee with perjury coaching, believing he requested witness Kim Jin-sung to give false testimony favorable to him, and charged Kim with perjury.
Kim admitted to giving false testimony during the trial, but Lee's side denies it.
