Partial Sequential Suspension of Tap Water Supply in Gwangsan-gu and Buk-gu, Gwangju Starting from the 29th

On the 29th, the area around Sanwol Elementary School in Gwangsan-gu; on June 5th, the area around Gwangju Technopark to Yongsan Village in Buk-gu; on June 14th, the area around Cheomdan General Hospital; and on June 21st, the area around Cheomdan 2-dong Happy Welfare Center.

In particular, the water supply suspension will take place from 11 PM to 3 AM the next day, the time when water usage is lowest, to minimize inconvenience to citizens.

This water supply suspension is to inspect the areas where the water supply network block construction was completed at the end of last year and to perform pipeline cleaning work.

The water supply network block system is an advanced system that reorganizes linearly installed pipes into block (network) forms to efficiently manage water pipes within the region.

The Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters completed the construction of 126 blocks by last year and plans to build a total of 153 blocks across Gwangju by 2026 in phases.

Once the blocks are completed, it will be possible to monitor supply volume, consumption volume, leakage volume, water pressure, and more by area.

It enables rapid detection of leaks that are not visible on the surface, maintains appropriate water pressure in the pipes, and prevents water waste caused by leaks.

Additionally, it allows immediate response in emergency situations, minimizing damage and ensuring safe water supply to homes.

The Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters plans to visit the affected areas before the water suspension to inform residents about the suspension and the possibility of cloudy water, and to prepare a large amount of Bityeoul water for emergencies. For more details, please contact the Water Supply Team of the Technical Department at the Waterworks Headquarters.

Kim Il-yung, head of the Gwangju Waterworks Headquarters, said, “To minimize inconvenience to citizens, the water supply suspension time was set from 11 PM to 3 AM when water usage is lowest. After the water supply is restored, please check the condition of the water when turning on the faucet before use.”
