Next Year's 'National Marine Sports Festival' to Be Held at Siheung Geobukseom Island

Next Year's 'National Marine Sports Festival' to Be Held at Siheung Geobukseom Island Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the host city for next year's 'National Marine Sports Festival.'

The National Marine Sports Festival is a grand event for marine sports enthusiasts aimed at spreading a marine-friendly culture, revitalizing marine leisure tourism, and fostering the marine sports industry.

Siheung's Geobukseom Island received high marks during an on-site inspection last March attended by judges from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Marine Boy Scouts Federation, due to its well-established infrastructure such as parking facilities, accommodations, and convenience facilities, as well as its hosting of various related events like marine festivals and surfing competitions.

Previously, Gyeonggi Province, together with Siheung City, has been working to make the Geobukseom area the center of marine leisure tourism in the metropolitan area by promoting various support projects including the Geobukseom Marina, Marine Ecology Science Center, and Aquapet Land. Last year, they successfully hosted Korea's first-ever '2023 Siheung Korea Open International Surfing Competition.'

Gong Jeong-sik, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Life Sciences, stated, "By holding the National Marine Sports Festival at Geobukseom in Siheung City, we hope to establish Gyeonggi Province as the center of marine sports and marine leisure tourism. We will do our best to prepare for the Marine Sports Festival together with Siheung City."
