Eunpyeong-gu Expands 'Safe Return Home Scout Accompaniment Service'

Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is focusing on building a women-friendly safe village by strengthening the ‘Safe Return Home Scout Accompaniment Service’ for residents’ safe return home during late-night hours and improving women’s safe return home routes.

The ‘Safe Return Home Scout’ service consists of scout members operating in pairs who accompany residents to their doorstep when returning home late at night.

Last year, the district provided 1,550 accompaniment services for safe returns and conducted 2,698 patrol activities.

Eunpyeong-gu has expanded its key locations compared to last year and operates at a total of seven stations: Jeungsan Station, Saejeol Station, Eungam Station, Yeokchon Station, Yeonsinnae Station, Gusan Station, and Bulgwang Station. Operating hours are from 10 PM to 12 AM on Mondays, and from 10 PM to 1 AM from Tuesday to Friday. However, the service does not operate on weekends and public holidays.

The service is available only by 100% advance reservation and same-day reservations are accepted. Applications can be made through the ‘Seoul Safe’ app on a mobile phone at least 30 minutes before arriving at the subway station or bus stop.

Additionally, the district conducted a full inspection of 10 women’s safe return home routes during both day and night and introduced the ‘Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)’ technique to improve aging safety facilities.

The improved ‘LED guide signs’ use an eco-friendly method that charges solar power to emit light. They were installed to compensate for the shortcomings of existing signs that are difficult to identify at night. It is expected to secure pedestrian safety without incurring additional costs such as electricity bills.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, “I hope more residents actively use the Safe Return Home Scout service to help them return home safely,” and added, “Eunpyeong-gu is also focusing on building a women-friendly safe village through safe delivery lockers and safe keeper houses.”
