In the 2023 Regional Contribution Survey of Major Retailers conducted by Daegu City, 'The Hyundai Daegu' received the highest evaluation and was selected as the best retailer for the second consecutive year.
'The Hyundai Daegu' has achieved the honor of being selected as the best retailer seven times, except for 2021, since the regional contribution evaluation of large corporate retailers began in 2017, solidifying its position as the undisputed number one in regional contribution. The Hyundai Department Store Daegu Branch, which opened in Banwoldang, Jung-gu, Daegu in 2011, changed its name to 'The Hyundai Daegu' in December 2022.
Lee Wongun, deputy branch manager of 'The Hyundai Daegu,' which ranked first in regional contribution among large retail companies, is taking a commemorative photo with Jung Jangsoo, deputy mayor of Daegu for economic affairs.
The regional contribution evaluation has been implemented annually by Daegu City since 2012, the first of its kind in the nation, to promote voluntary win-win cooperation and mutual growth between large retailers and local businesses.
The evaluation targeted eight major retailers and 26 stores, including department stores and large marts in the Daegu region. The assessment was conducted based on the regional contribution guidelines, covering 10 items through document review, on-site inspection, and expert committee evaluation.
In this year's evaluation, 'The Hyundai Daegu' received perfect scores in five areas: use of local financial institutions, local outsourcing of service contracts, employment of local personnel, installation of local permanent stores, and reinvestment of operating profits. The retailer also scored highly across other indicators.
Additionally, in the special business sector, which has been evaluated by an expert committee since this year, 'The Hyundai Daegu' received excellent reviews for implementing diverse and unique projects such as the 'Daegu Art Company Collaboration Art Wave Event' and the operation of 'Local Business Pop-up Stores and Hobby Shops.'
Notably, as part of efforts for mutual growth with local businesses, 'The Hyundai Daegu' collaborated with local small business owners to host pop-up store events for outstanding regional food brands such as 'Till Bagel' and 'Montblanc de Paris.' These events received enthusiastic responses from both businesses and customers and are expected to be further expanded in the future.
Lee Wongun, Deputy Branch Manager of The Hyundai Daegu, stated, "We will continue our efforts for mutual growth in the local retail industry by planning new projects in cooperation with traditional markets and in the fields of culture and arts."
Jung Jangsoo, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, said, "We deeply appreciate the continued efforts of The Hyundai Daegu for mutual growth with the local community," and added, "We will do our best to develop practical measures so that both local small and medium-sized merchants and large retailers can benefit from mutual cooperation and harmony."
