The '2nd 1883 Incheon Maekgang Party,' featuring 6,000 servings of fried chicken and 10,000 cans of 500cc beer, will be held at Incheon Port.

According to Incheon City on the 25th, the 1883 Maekgang Party will take place at 4 p.m. on the same day at the outdoor plaza of the Incheon Port Sangsang Platform, with 12,000 foreign tourists gathering. The year 1883 is the opening year of Incheon Port, and the party name 'Maekgang' is derived from beer (maekju) and fried chicken (dakgangjeong).

Foreign attendees come from more than 10 countries including China, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and the United States. Rather than large groups from specific companies, many small groups brought in by individual travel agencies promoting the event are expected.

The organizers are most focused on delivering 6,000 servings of fried chicken to the venue ahead of the event. The Tourism Corporation plans to distribute 300g of fried chicken in 16-ounce paper cups to each of the 12,000 foreign tourists attending. The total weight of the chicken reaches 3.6 tons.

To present Incheon’s famous fried chicken in a crispy and delicious state to foreigners, the corporation contracted with shops in Sinpo International Market and Singi Market, where fried chicken artisans are concentrated. There are six contracted shops, each responsible for preparing about 1,000 servings of fried chicken to be sent to the venue.

The merchants are preparing to start cooking from early dawn on the day of the event without pre-making the chicken, to achieve the highest quality taste and welcome guests.

Besides fried chicken, the Tourism Corporation prepared 10,000 cans of beer?4,000 cans of local beer produced by two Incheon craft beer companies and 6,000 cans of regular beer?as well as 2,000 cans of soft drinks. About 80 million KRW of the 260 million KRW event budget will be spent on purchasing fried chicken and beer.

Incheon City expects the economic effect from various consumption activities such as accommodation, meals, and shopping by these visitors to reach 14 billion KRW.

To promote the attraction of foreign tourists, 18 additional food trucks will operate at the event to showcase various flavors of Incheon to foreigners. There will also be K-pop performances, Taekwondo demonstrations, Army military band concerts, drama OST performances, and a nighttime drone show.

Kim Chung-jin, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Incheon City, said, "Through the Maekgang Party held at Incheon Port, where various Western cultures poured in after the port opened in 1883, we will promote Incheon to the world and strive to boost the Jemulpo Renaissance, a project to revitalize the old downtown."
