National Mokpo University, Poet Hwang Ji-woo and Writer Yoo Si-min's Dialogue 'Hot Humanities Concert' Sparks Attention

Proof of Culture and Arts-Centered University, Humanities Lectures Continue Amid Strong Support

On the 23rd, Mokpo National University successfully concluded the ‘Humanities Concert 2024’ featuring invited writer Yoo Si-min.

The event, held at the Cheonggang Hall in the 70th Anniversary Hall of Mokpo National University, attracted great attention with around 800 attendees including students, faculty, staff, and local residents.

This humanities lecture was planned as part of Mokpo National University’s efforts following its declaration as a ‘Culture and Arts-Centered University’ last year, providing high-quality programs to its members and local residents.

Reflecting the high expectations for the lecture by writer Yoo Si-min, tickets sold out at lightning speed in two rounds of sales, and on the day of the lecture, the audience lined up continuously, resulting in the early sell-out of all 743 seats, demonstrating tremendous popularity.

The lecture began with opening remarks on modern Korean history by poet Hwang Ji-woo and proceeded under the theme, “From the perspective of presidential studies by writer Yoo Si-min, what are the characteristics and legacies when comparing Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun?”

Especially in an atmosphere where the audience and stage became one, a dialogue session with the audience followed, eliciting cheers and applause in response to answers about the most impressive scenes from specific films.

Poet Hwang Ji-woo, who hosted this humanities concert, was born in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, and has served as president of the Korea National University of Arts. Writer Yoo Si-min has not only hosted the MBC Cultural Broadcasting program “100-Minute Debate” but also published numerous books and appeared on TV programs.

The ‘Humanities Concert,’ where the intellect of the era meets the humanities, will be held six times this year. It is co-hosted by Mokpo National University, Mokpo City, and the Mokpo Cultural City Center, and is recognized as a special event that delivers both knowledge and inspiration.

Mokpo National University plans to continue developing cultural and artistic programs that promote mutual growth between the university and the local community, fulfilling its social responsibility so that all university members and local residents can enjoy and appreciate culture.
