Kim Ji-eun, the sexual assault victim of former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung, won a partial victory in a damages lawsuit filed against the former governor. It has been about four years since Kim filed the lawsuit.
On the 24th, the Civil Division 22 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Choi Wook-jin) ruled in favor of the plaintiff in part in the lawsuit filed by Kim against former Governor Ahn and Chungcheongnam-do for damages amounting to approximately 300 million KRW, ordering “Former Governor Ahn to pay 83.47 million KRW, of which 53.47 million KRW shall be jointly paid by Chungcheongnam-do and former Governor Ahn.”
The court judged that “it is reasonable to recognize that the defendants’ illegal acts caused post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).”
In July 2020, Kim filed a lawsuit claiming a total of 300 million KRW in compensation for consolation money and medical expenses, stating that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to sexual assault and secondary harm by former Governor Ahn. She also filed a damages lawsuit against Chungcheongnam-do, holding it responsible for the crime committed during the performance of official duties.
Former Governor Ahn was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison by the Supreme Court in 2019 for charges including sexual assault and sexual harassment by abuse of power against his secretary Kim from July 2017 to February 2018, and was released after serving his full term in August 2022.
