[Polpol News] President Yoon's Approval Rating Not Recovering... Gallup Reports "Same 24% as Two Weeks Ago"

Support for Minsheng Recovery Fund 43% vs Opposition 51%

President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating has fallen into a slump. Since the defeat in the general election, the approval rating has dropped to the low to mid-20% range and has shown little sign of recovery. Regarding the livelihood recovery support fund proposed by opposition parties such as the Democratic Party, opposition opinions outweigh support according to the survey.


According to a public opinion poll released on the 24th by Gallup (conducted from the 21st to 23rd nationwide with 1,001 respondents aged 18 and older via wireless phone interviews), 24% of respondents evaluated President Yoon's job performance positively. Since the general election, President Yoon recorded a low of 23% in the Gallup regular survey and has maintained 24% in the three subsequent surveys. Negative evaluations stood at 67%, the same as the survey conducted two weeks ago.

The response that President Yoon is currently "doing well" was prominent only among People Power Party supporters (60%). Among those aged 70 and older and conservatives, positive and negative opinions were evenly split. In the 70+ age group, positive and negative evaluations were tied at 43%, and among conservatives, positive evaluations were 45% while negative evaluations were 46%.


Those who positively evaluated President Yoon's job performance cited diplomacy and the expansion of medical school quotas. Conversely, those who gave negative evaluations pointed to the economy, livelihood issues, inflation, and poor communication. Additionally, the exercise of veto power and alleged interference in the Marine Corps investigation were cited as reasons for negative evaluations.


In terms of party support, the People Power Party's approval rating fell 5 percentage points from two weeks ago to 29%, while the Democratic Party rose by 1 percentage point to 31%. The Reform Innovation Party stood at 11%, and the Reform New Party at 4%.


Regarding the livelihood recovery support fund proposed by the Democratic Party, 43% of respondents said it should be provided, while 51% said it should not. Support for the fund was higher among progressives and opposition party supporters, whereas conservatives and ruling party supporters opposed it. Among centrists, 40% supported providing the fund, while 53% opposed it, showing a majority against.
