Yeosu Coast Guard to Conduct Comprehensive Crackdown on Unreported Crew Changes

Discrepancies Between Number of Passengers and Entry/Exit Declaration Personnel, etc.

Jeonnam Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Choi Kyung-geun) announced, "In order to ensure swift and efficient rescue operations in the event of marine accidents such as fishing vessel collisions and capsizing, we will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on unreported crew changes."

According to Yeosu Maritime Police, after a promotion and guidance period until the 31st, a focused crackdown will be carried out for one month from June 1 to June 30.

This crackdown aims to prevent confusion at rescue sites during marine accidents and to encourage voluntary reporting of crew changes by marine workers. It targets fishing vessels where the actual number of crew members does not match the number registered in the system.

In the first quarter of this year, a total of 14 cases of unreported crew changes were detected within the Yeosu Maritime Police jurisdiction, and cases of unreported crew changes on some fishing vessels continue to occur this year as well.

According to the Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Act, crew change reports must be submitted either by visiting a police substation or via mobile if there are changes in the crew list or fishing vessel entry and exit reports. Violations can result in administrative penalties ranging from a first warning to a 15-day suspension of fishing activities.

A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "To ensure prompt rescue and the establishment of a safe fishing culture in the event of marine accidents, please be sure to report any crew changes by visiting maritime police stations or substations, or through the internet or mobile."
