Providing weekly opportunities until November for residents and elementary, middle, and high school students to experience daily safety using CCTV
Hands-on experience with security CCTV operation and emergency bell activation that protect against crime
Opportunities to learn about the Smart Shelter and Smart Crosswalk monitored by Seongdong-gu Smart City Integrated Operation Center
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jung Won-oh) will operate a ‘CCTV Safety Experience Center’ at the Smart City Integrated Operation Center (5th floor of Seongdong-gu Office) until November, targeting residents and elementary, middle, and high school students.
The ‘CCTV Safety Experience Center’ is a safety experience education program that provides opportunities to experience daily safety using CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television, unmanned surveillance cameras) and is held once a week.
In the safety experience education, participants can directly experience the operation and management of security CCTV that protects against crime, as well as the activation of emergency bells. Through this, they can prevent various incidents and accidents in advance and improve their ability to respond to situations.
Additionally, through the education, participants can learn about the Seongdong-type Smart Shelter, smart crosswalks, and the Ansim-i smartphone app (which guides safe routes home), all monitored by the Smart City Integrated Operation Center. Especially, detailed explanations added to video viewing education make it easy to understand each function and operating principle.
Applications for this education will be accepted starting May 22, and those who wish to participate can get detailed information by visiting the Seongdong-gu Office website or contacting the Information and Communication Division.
The Seongdong-gu Smart City Integrated Operation Center, where the safety experience education takes place, was the first control center established by a local government in 2008. It has continuously developed and now has a system capable of monitoring smart city infrastructure such as smart shelters and smart crosswalks. Its importance has grown especially after the Itaewon Halloween disaster, and it has been introduced in the media multiple times as a model case of a ‘CCTV control system.’
Seongdong-gu continues to expand multipurpose CCTVs for crime prevention and currently operates about 4,000 CCTVs. In addition, in 2020, it established a smart city integrated platform to share CCTV footage in real time with related agencies such as the district office, police station, and fire station, making every effort to secure the golden time in cases of crime or disaster.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I believe the CCTV safety experience education will be a valuable opportunity to personally learn about daily safety,” and added, “We will continue to do our best so that all residents can feel proud to live in the smart inclusive city of Seongdong and live safely.”
