Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that on the 22nd, it held a business agreement ceremony for the '2024 Seokchon Lake Water Quality Improvement' with Lotte Corporation and four other affiliates, the Green Future Foundation, and Jens at Seokchon Lake.

Seokchon Lake, a representative landmark of Seoul, attracted 5.05 million visitors this spring to see events such as the 'Lake Cherry Blossom Festival' and the 'Lapras & Pikachu' exhibition. It has become a tourism resource where not only Songpa residents but also domestic and international tourists enjoy various festivals, culture, and arts, increasing the need for water quality improvement at Seokchon Lake.

Accordingly, the district has been steadily promoting the Seokchon Lake water quality improvement project since 2021. As a result, the overall water quality has improved from grade 3 to grade 2 or higher, transparency has increased from 0.6m to over 2m, and visible effects such as hosting swimming competitions at Seokchon Lake have appeared.

Under this agreement, the district will provide administrative support and basic data for the water quality improvement project, while Lotte will support the fundraising and on-site operations related to the Seokchon Lake water quality improvement project. Green Future will conduct water quality monitoring and provide technical advice, and Jens will carry out water quality improvement work.

After the agreement ceremony, Mayor Seo Gang-seok boarded a water purification vessel and toured various parts of the lake to directly check transparency and other conditions.

Mayor Seo Gang-seok stated, “Through this business agreement, we will establish infrastructure for continuous water quality improvement, making Seokchon Lake a premium site and adapting to climate change, so that many visitors can enjoy a clean and beautiful Seokchon Lake throughout all four seasons.”
