Pre-Booking Starts... Single Release of Sports Trim
General Motors (GM)'s premium brand Cadillac is launching its first electric vehicle, the 'Lyriq', in South Korea.
On the 23rd, Cadillac Korea announced the start of pre-orders for the Lyriq.
The Lyriq, a luxury mid-to-large crossover (CUV), is the first vehicle manufactured by GM based on the dedicated electric vehicle platform 'Ultium'. Its dimensions are 4996 mm in length, 1980 mm in width, and 1640 mm in height. It is larger than Hyundai's Palisade (length 4995 mm, width 1975 mm) but smaller than Kia's electric vehicle EV9 (length 5010 mm, width 1980 mm). The wheelbase measures 3095 mm, and the curb weight is 2670 kg.
The front is decorated with a 'Black Crystal Shield' instead of a grille. A distinctive feature is the 'Choreography Lighting' effect, where lights turn on automatically along the lower outline of the Cadillac shield emblem when the occupant approaches or unlocks the Lyriq. The vertical headlamps, composed of nine individual LEDs, light up from top to bottom as if the light is flowing downward.
Exterior colors include five options: Argent Silver Metallic, Stellar Black Metallic, Crystal White Tricoat, Opulent Blue Metallic, and Radiant Red Tricoat.
The interior is also lavishly designed. It features a 33-inch curved advanced LED display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system into one. Premium materials such as aluminum, wood, and Napa leather are used on the seats and center fascia.
The ambient lighting, which responds to the occupant's choices and driving modes, offers a 26-color LED RGB spectrum. Other highlights include a front seat center armrest, a crystal-finished center console, and seats with quilting patterns.
The battery capacity is 102 kWh. The battery pack consists of cells made with nickel-cobalt-manganese-aluminum (NCMA) cathode material arranged in 12 modules. It is explained that the industry-first wireless battery management system allows independent control and organic coordination of each battery module.
While providing all-wheel drive as standard, the driving range is extended up to 465 km on a full charge. It also supports DC fast charging with a maximum output of 190 kW per hour. Approximately 10 minutes of charging enables driving about 120 km.
The Lyriq achieves nearly 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution through a battery placement that lowers the center of gravity to aid a rigid chassis and two motors mounted at the front and rear of the body. It delivers a maximum output of 500 horsepower and a maximum torque of 62.2 kgf·m.
With the 'Variable Regen on Demand' technology, the driver can precisely reduce speed or stop using only the pressure-sensitive paddle switches mounted behind the steering wheel. The 'One Pedal Driving' function allows acceleration and deceleration control using only the accelerator pedal.
It is launched in a single sports trim, priced at 106.96 million KRW based on a 5% individual consumption tax. Cadillac plans to rename its integrated brand space 'The House of GM' located in Gangnam, Seoul, to 'Atelier Lyriq' and unveil the vehicle on the 31st.
Yoon Myung-ok, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of GM Korea, said, "The Lyriq has already been fully recognized for its value, ranking first in single-model sales among luxury brands in the North American EV market in the first quarter of this year. We hope domestic customers will experience the new level of luxury EV that the Lyriq offers firsthand."
