484 Billion KRW Invested to Establish Smart Modular Center in Asan
A Smart Modular Center will be established in Asan, Chungnam to support the development of core technologies for inorganic light-emitting displays.
The province's project, "Development of Inorganic Light-Emitting Display Technology and Ecosystem Establishment," passed the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 23rd.
The province plans to invest 484 billion KRW by 2032 to build a 4,000㎡ Smart Modular Center in the Tangjeong Techno General Industrial Complex in Asan.
The center will support the development of core technologies for inorganic light-emitting displays and serve as a demonstration facility where companies can test the entire manufacturing process. Inorganic light-emitting displays are a world-leading nanotechnology that overcomes the limitations of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), which are vulnerable to oxygen and moisture, enabling high reliability, high brightness, and long lifespan under solar light conditions.
The province aims to secure three major breakthrough technologies: ultra-small, high-efficiency pixel technology, high-speed panel formation technology, and ultra-large modular display manufacturing technology.
Based on this, the plan is to secure over 70% market share in the premium segment and achieve 75% supply chain self-reliance, strengthening its position as the world's largest display industry hub.
The province expects that the establishment of the center will create about 3,000 local jobs, generate 800 billion KRW in production inducement effects, and 350 billion KRW in added value inducement effects.
An Ho, Director of the Industrial Economy Office of the province, said, "The development of inorganic light-emitting display technology and ecosystem establishment is a project that supports securing breakthrough technologies for next-generation displays." He added, "By linking with the Display Innovation Process Center and the Chungnam Innovation Industry Fund, Chungnam will solidify its position as the world's leading display industry center."
