Yeongyang Multicultural Family Support Center Holds Warm Meeting for Small-Nationality Self-Help Group

Different Nationalities, But Our Hearts Connect!

The Yeongyang County Multicultural Family Support Center in North Gyeongsang Province held a "Warm Gathering for Minority Nationality Self-Help Group" at Yeongsan Seowon in Hyeon-ri, Yeongyang-eup at 10 a.m. on the 23rd, targeting 25 marriage immigrants of minority nationalities.

This gathering, excluding Vietnamese multicultural families, aimed to enhance intimacy among multicultural families of minority nationalities such as China, Japan, the Philippines, and Laos. It began with the recitation of the "Hundred-Year Harmony Charter" for couples to commemorate Couple's Day and to promote mutual respect between spouses.


To foster a sense of belonging among marriage immigrants of minority nationalities, participants toured Yeongsan Seowon, a representative heritage site of Yeongyang, with a cultural commentator, learning about the history of Yeongyang. Various programs were also held, including sharing and coexisting with cultures from different countries, introducing traditional costumes by country, and reciting poems in their native languages to boost the confidence of marriage immigrants.


Yamamoto Katsue (57, Japan), who participated in the program, shared her thoughts, saying, "Sharing my native culture helped boost my confidence, and I had a meaningful time communicating with multicultural families from various countries through the self-help group."


County Governor Oh Dochang stated, "We will help multicultural families of minority nationalities form closer bonds through various activities of the self-help group and expand its activities so that their lives in Korea are not lonely and they can successfully settle down."
