Hyundai Mobis Employees Conduct Large-Scale Biological Exploration in Jincheon

About 100 employees of Hyundai Mobis conducted a large-scale biodiversity survey around the Miho River area in Jincheon, Chungbuk, the company announced on the 23rd. The biodiversity survey is a citizen environmental experience activity where experts and the general public gather to find all species within a certain area and build a database.

Company employees participated in survey activities across six fields, including basic training for exploration, plants, and mammals. They also received explanations about the current status of the Miho River ecosystem and the importance of biodiversity activities. Experts from various fields, including a landscape architecture professor, a natural ecology survey specialist from the Ministry of Environment, and advisory committee members, accompanied them.

Previously, the company cultivated the Mir Forest around the Miho River as an ecological forest for 10 years starting in 2012 and donated it to Jincheon County in 2022. Environmental assessments and ecosystem surveys conducted in 2013 and last year discovered Eurasian otters, which are natural monuments and endangered species. Legally protected species such as the Eastern buzzard, mandarin duck, and leopard cat, which were not observed in the early stages of forest creation, were also subsequently found.

The company decided to carry out an ecological restoration project for the river and forest area according to a mid- to long-term operation plan consisting of three phases, rather than a one-time project. Starting with the restoration of the Miho goby last year, the focus will be on wetland creation for the next three years beginning this year. Jincheon is home to Hyundai Mobis's automotive electronic parts manufacturing plant.
