Lotte and Songpa District Office started the ‘Seokchon Lake Water Quality Improvement’ project in August 2021 to provide citizens with a comfortable and clean resting place at Seokchon Lake. Using an eco-friendly method based on photocatalysts, they improved the basic water quality and suppressed the formation of green algae, enhancing the lake’s turbidity and cleanliness. As a result, the transparency of Seokchon Lake increased from the previous 0.6m to up to 2m, and the overall water quality significantly improved from grade 3 to grade 2 or higher. Grade 2 water is suitable for bathing or swimming and can be used as drinking water after boiling or chemical treatment.
Under this agreement, Lotte will support the fundraising and on-site operations related to the water quality improvement project, Songpa District Office will provide administrative support and basic data for the project, the Green Future Foundation will conduct water quality monitoring and technical advisory, and Jens will carry out the water quality improvement work.
Jang Jae-hoon, CEO of Lotte Property & Development, said, “Through continuous water quality improvement activities, we will do our best to make Seokchon Lake and Lotte World Tower not only representative tourist attractions of Korea but also green landmarks shared with people around the world.”
