Expresses Determination to Create a Premium Street on Songpa-daero Matching the Prestige of Global City Seoul Through Development Project

"We plan to transform Songpa-daero into a so-called 'garden you want to walk in.' We will create a street garden featuring cherry blossom-lined flower paths, lush greenery, and pleasant earthing paths, making it a pedestrian-centered representative street of Seoul."

On the afternoon of the 21st, Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, visited the Ttukseom Hangang Park Seoul International Garden Expo site with about 20 Songpa residents and district officials, expressing his aspirations for the Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project, a key initiative of the 8th local government administration.

Despite the early summer heat that day, Mayor Seo and local residents attentively listened to detailed explanations from city officials as they toured the expo site. They visited 76 outstanding international gardens created by domestic and international garden artists and citizens, freely exchanging various opinions for successful benchmarking.

A Seoul city official assisting on-site said, "We hope Songpa-gu will contribute significantly to creating a 'Garden City, Seoul,'" and promised, "We will actively cooperate in necessary areas such as technical advice and consulting."

The 'Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project,' which the district is focusing on, is a large-scale project aimed at transforming Songpa-daero, which has been neglected in development for the past 35 years, into a vibrant and attractive Seoul representative street where people want to walk. In particular, it is being promoted as the 'Songpa Avenue' project over a 1.5 km section from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market Intersection. The road will be reorganized to widen pedestrian paths and planted with cherry trees, reconfiguring it into an urban resting space full of sights to see.

The residents' laughter and curiosity-filled garden tour continued for over an hour that day. The district announced that it will actively reflect the residents' opinions gathered on-site in future landscaping plans for Songpa-daero.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "The Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project will be a project symbolizing the 'Garden City, Seoul,'" and added, "We will create an unprecedented premium street befitting the global status of Seoul and serve our residents."
