Trump Leads Biden in 5 of 7 Battleground States
In seven U.S. battleground states, half of the voters support the forced sale of TikTok. Half of the voters believe that artificial intelligence (AI) will have negative effects on privacy, jobs, and U.S. elections. Former President Donald Trump was found to have an advantage over President Joe Biden in five of the seven battleground states.
According to a poll released on the 22nd (local time) by Bloomberg News in collaboration with Morning Consult, which surveyed 4,962 voters from seven battleground states?Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin?between the 7th and 13th, 51% of respondents supported the forced sale of TikTok (margin of error ±3?5 percentage points).
The forced sale law requires ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to sell TikTok’s U.S. operations within 270 days; otherwise, the service will be banned in the U.S. President Joe Biden has signed this bill into law.
Opposition to the forced sale law stood at 33%, while 16% of respondents were unsure.
Concerns about TikTok’s impact on mental health were expressed by 62% of respondents, and 71% worried about its negative effects on younger generations.
However, 58% of TikTok users who participated in the survey opposed the forced sale law. Among TikTok users, 51% expressed concerns about overseas data collection.
Voters in battleground states also viewed AI technology as having adverse effects on privacy and jobs. Fifty-eight percent of respondents said AI would negatively impact privacy. Forty-eight percent believed it would have a negative effect on jobs, 48% thought it would have adverse consequences on elections, and 45% said it would be detrimental to national security.
Looking at the overall approval ratings of President Biden and former President Trump, Trump showed an advantage over Biden in five of the seven battleground states. Trump led Biden in all but Nevada and Michigan.
By region, Trump led Biden by 5 percentage points in Arizona, 3 points in Georgia, 7 points in North Carolina, 2 points in Pennsylvania, and 1 point in Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Nevada was tied, and Biden led by 1 point in Michigan.
Compared to Bloomberg News’ poll last month, Trump’s lead decreased by about 2?3 percentage points in four states: Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
Across all seven battleground states, Trump held 48%, leading Biden’s 44% by 4 percentage points. The overall decline in Trump’s lead in battleground states appears to be related to the hush money trial concerning a sexual misconduct scandal held in New York.
