Includes Meal Allowance and Holiday Bonus Increase
The Federation of Korean Trade Unions called for an increase in the basic salary to improve the treatment of non-regular workers (public officials) in the public sector.
On the 22nd, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions announced that it submitted a budget request to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, including measures to improve the treatment of public officials such as raising the basic salary.
The request included ▲ a 9.5% increase in workers' basic salary ▲ increases in meal allowances, holiday bonuses, family allowances, and welfare points ▲ enactment of the Public Officials Committee Act ▲ establishment of a wage determination structure for public officials.
The Federation of Korean Trade Unions stated, "In an era of high inflation and high interest rates, real wages have effectively been cut, causing difficulties for non-regular workers in the public sector who are already in poor working conditions," adding, "Non-regular workers in the public sector face unreasonable discrimination as they either do not receive or receive very low holiday bonuses, welfare points, and family allowances, which are unrelated to their duties."
They further added, "To improve the dual structure of the labor market, it is essential to allocate a budget to eliminate discrimination against non-regular workers in the public sector and improve their treatment."
