Over the past two years, support was provided for the establishment of graduate schools at five universities including Konkuk University, Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Sejong University, and KAIST, selecting a total of 151 new students.
They operated 90 specialized curricula combining metaverse technology and humanities and social sciences, as well as 49 industry-academia cooperation projects addressing challenges faced by the industry.
This year’s selected Kyung Hee University plans to organize courses and operate industry-academia cooperation projects centered on four major application and diffusion fields to develop ultra-realistic metaverse technology and cultivate convergent metaverse talents.
Soongsil University aims to nurture future-oriented leading talents by designing and operating a curriculum that organically integrates technology, humanities, and design to train world-class metaverse leaders.
Chung-Ang University plans to establish and operate an educational program that combines knowledge and technology with the goal of training global experts in metaverse content planning and production technology.
The three universities selected this year will open their graduate schools in the second semester (September). The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to support each graduate school with a total of 5.5 billion KRW over up to six years (4+2 years), providing 500 million KRW in the first year and 1 billion KRW annually thereafter.
Hwang Gyu-cheol, Director of Software Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "To secure a competitive edge in the metaverse market, it is essential to continuously cultivate capable high-level experts," adding, "We will actively support the Metaverse Convergence Graduate Schools to play a pivotal role."
