Incheon Port Authority (IPA) announced on the 21st that the container throughput at Incheon Port last month reached 314,200 TEU (1 TEU equals one 20-foot container), marking the highest volume ever recorded for April.

This is 5.1% higher than the previous record of 298,900 TEU set in April 2021.

Last month's export volume was 147,700 TEU, and import volume was 160,200 TEU, representing increases of 6.5% and 10.1% respectively compared to the same month last year, while transshipment volume recorded 6,306 TEU.

IPA attributes the increase in throughput to a rise in automobile exports using containers, as well as strengthened regional marketing targeting cargo owners in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, and Gangwon region.

According to customs data statistics, new car exports from Incheon Port increased from 22,623 units in April last year to 24,768 units last month, of which 4,066 units were exported via container transport. Additionally, last month saw the export of 41,818 used cars, the highest monthly export volume so far this year, with 34,898 units transported by container.

An IPA official stated, "We will strive to increase the utilization of Incheon Port through improvements in port logistics and services, especially focusing on revitalizing the automobile, K-food, port-airport combined transport, and e-commerce sectors."
