Amendment to Liquor License Act Allowing 'Jansul' Passed at Cabinet Meeting

Amendment to Liquor License Act Allowing 'Jansul' Passed at Cabinet Meeting

The government passed a revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Liquor License Act at the Cabinet meeting on the 21st, allowing restaurants to sell 'leftover drinks' by the glass.

The revision added an exception to the cancellation of liquor sales licenses for "cases where liquor is divided and sold in empty containers such as glasses." This means that so-called leftover drink sales, where liquor is sold by the glass rather than by the bottle, will be permitted. Although leftover drinks were previously recognized under the National Tax Service's interpretation, this revision clearly establishes it in the law.

On the same day, the government also permitted the sale of liquor that has been cooled or heated, or mixed with ingredients on the spot. Additionally, comprehensive liquor wholesalers are now allowed to supply non-alcoholic or alcohol-free beverages manufactured and sold by liquor producers together with liquor to restaurants.

The revision will be promulgated and enforced after being published in the official gazette within 3 to 5 days.
