Yeongdeok County Establishes Multi-Party Cooperation System for Designation as Education Development Special Zone

County Council, Yeongdeok Office of Education, and Daegu Haany University Sign Regional Education Development Agreement

Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province signed a regional cooperation agreement with the Yeongdeok County Council, Yeongdeok Office of Education, and Daegu Haany University on the 20th to be selected as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone.

The Education Development Special Zone is one of the four major special zones based on the government's Comprehensive Plan for the Local Era. Its purpose is to improve the quality of public education and nurture local talent to establish a foundation for local settlement.


If selected as a special zone, customized special provisions will be applied to areas such as childcare, public education, and universities tailored to the region's characteristics, and financial and institutional support will be provided for the education sector, including more than 3 billion KRW in national funding.


The designation of the special zone is overseen by the Ministry of Education. If selected as a pilot area, a detailed plan will be established, and after evaluating the results of three years of operation, formal designation will follow.


The main contents of this agreement include preparations for selection as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone, such as: preparation of an operational plan, establishment of education development strategies, construction of a talent development system, expansion of support in the public education sector, balanced regional development, and improvement of settlement conditions.


Yeongdeok County plans to establish a close cooperative system with the partner organizations through this agreement and to devote all efforts to discovering a unique education development model for the region and being designated as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone.


County Governor Kim Kwangyeol said, "We will establish and implement education policies that reflect the unique characteristics and realities of our region, and pursue a long-term roadmap for education development that can be applied not only to the pilot area of the Education Development Special Zone but also after formal designation. We will firmly lay the foundation so that various social entities can build a close cooperative system for the development of local education and talent cultivation, and realize a virtuous cycle structure that enables people to settle in the region."
