Busan Office of Education to Operate Training for Middle School Autonomous School Hours

Understanding of Revised School Autonomy Hours Increases, Superintendents Share Recognized Subjects

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education held a training session on June 20 at the Busan Metropolitan Institute of Educational Research and Information, with over 370 participants including middle school vice principals and heads of academic affairs, to address the ‘2022 Revised Curriculum’ and the implementation of autonomous school hours in middle schools.

This training was organized to enhance understanding of the newly introduced autonomous school hours in the ‘2022 Revised Curriculum’ and to share subjects approved by the Busan Metropolitan Superintendent of Education for the organization and operation of these hours.

The Office of Education conducted the training through special lectures, case sharing, and administrative guidance. Vice Principal Ryu Chunhee of Namsan Middle School delivered a lecture on the topic of ‘2022 Revised Curriculum and Autonomous School Hours,’ and Teacher Kim Younghwa of Deokcheon Middle School presented cases of ‘Organization and Operation of Autonomous School Hours.’

Additionally, the training provided administrative guidance focused on the design and operation of autonomous school hours, and questions related to autonomous school hours collected via QR code will be addressed in the curriculum guidance materials to be distributed in August.

To support the new organization and operation of autonomous school hours, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will introduce new subjects, outside of the 23 officially announced middle school subjects recognized by the Busan Metropolitan Superintendent of Education, in Busan-type autonomous curriculum model schools and schools selected for establishing new specialized subjects.

Superintendent Ha Yoonsoo stated, “This training will greatly contribute to building consensus on the 2022 Revised Curriculum’s autonomous school hours and enhancing teachers’ professionalism,” and added, “We hope this will lead to the operation of distinctive curricula created collaboratively by students, parents, and teachers.”
