Goseong County in Gyeongnam held the launching ceremony for the ‘2024 New-KOEN Sea Love Guardians Project’ at the auditorium of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Goseong County Branch, with participants of the project and invited guests in attendance.
The ceremony, held on the 20th, was attended by Kang Hoseon, Head of Win-Win Cooperation at Korea South-East Power, Yang Cheoli, Director of the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged Gyeongnam Branch, Choi Jongrim, President of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Goseong Branch, as well as other officials and 65 participants of the Sea Love Guardians Project, totaling around 75 people.
The ‘2024 New-KOEN (KOrea ENergy) Sea Love Guardians Project’ is a flagship social contribution job creation model of Korea South-East Power, supporting the sustainable development of rural and fishing villages. The project is a model of regional cooperation, with Korea South-East Power and the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged providing operational funding, Goseong County offering administrative support, and the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged and the Korea Senior Citizens Association Goseong Branch implementing and managing the project.
Since 2018, the project has created jobs tailored to the needs and demands of local seniors, and this year, it consists of a total of 65 participants. From May to October, for five months, they will conduct environmental cleanup activities such as collecting coastal waste in Goseong-eup, Samsan-myeon, Hail-myeon, Hai-myeon, Hoihwa-myeon, Donghae-myeon, and Georyu-myeon, as well as collecting recyclable items like milk cartons, aseptic packs, and used batteries, working 15 days (60 hours) per month, 3 to 4 times a week, 4 hours each session.
County Governor Lee Sanggeun said in his congratulatory speech, “The ‘2024 New-KOEN Sea Love Guardians Project’ will not only enhance the image of Goseong as a clean sea area but also greatly contribute to community development by creating job models for farmers and fishermen. Goseong County will continue to cooperate with various organizations and groups, including companies, so that residents can actively participate in protecting the marine ecosystem and addressing pollution issues for the development of the local community.”
