Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) is discovering young artists and providing opportunities to sell their works through meetings with consumers.
The district will hold the "Start of Opportunity, Youth General Store Flea Market" near Exit 2 of Ewha Womans University Station at Daehyeon Cultural Park (146 Daehyeon-dong) from 1 PM to 7 PM on the last Saturdays of each month: May 25, June 29, July 27, and September 28. Since the venue is outdoors, the event may be postponed in case of rain.
Earlier, the district recruited 15 participants (teams) for the May flea market from young artists aged 19 to 39 who live or work in Seodaemun-gu. They will sell their original creations, including accessories, knitted products, character postcards, and crafts, providing an opportunity to receive validation from consumers. Participants are recruited through announcements three weeks before each event date and can be checked on the Seodaemun Youth Startup Center blog or Instagram.
The "Youth General Store Flea Market" is operated as an eco-friendly event using wooden booths, cotton canvas banners, and paper bags. The district raises environmental awareness among citizens through the "Reusable Cup Green Campaign" in collaboration with local youth venture company Poodle Co., Ltd. and local businesses, and promotes the revitalization of nearby alley markets through busking performances and issuing store-use coupons.
The campaign provides buyers of flea market products with a coupon for one drink at nearby stores and a reusable cup supplied by Seodaemun-gu.
Mayor Lee Seongheon said, "The flea market held once last October received great response, so we expanded the event this year," and added, "We look forward to the interest and visits of many people to the youth-centered Youth General Store Flea Market."
