MS unveils Copilot+PC... "Windows vs Mac competition restarts"

AI Operation Optimization... 58% Faster Than Apple

MS unveils Copilot+PC... "Windows vs Mac competition restarts"

Microsoft (MS) unveiled its new PC equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) features, the 'Copilot+ PC,' on the 20th (local time), a day before the annual developer conference Build.

On the same day, Satya Nadella, MS CEO, introduced the 'Copilot+ PC' at a media conference held at the Redmond campus in Washington State, USA, describing it as "the fastest and AI-powered Windows PC ever created."

The Copilot+ PC is optimized for generative AI operation. It is equipped with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X processor based on Arm architecture to optimize AI functionality on the Windows operating system.

According to MS, the Copilot+ PC can perform 40 trillion operations per second and processes AI tasks 58% faster than Apple's MacBook Air M3 laptop.

In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Nadella mentioned Apple's Mac PC, saying, "Now we want to truly restart the competition between Windows and Mac." As Apple targets the PC market with a closed ecosystem and its own designed processors, MS aims to regain leadership.

It also features the latest AI model GPT-4o (Four-O) released by OpenAI on the 13th. Apple has been evaluated as lagging behind in the big tech AI competition due to the lack of a clear AI vision. This is interpreted as a strategy to capture the market through a partnership with OpenAI.

Based on this, it supports various AI functions such as audio translation, response recommendations for received messages, and suggestions for changes in the settings app.

An AI-powered demonstration was also revealed. MS introduced the Copilot voice assistant, which acts as a real-time virtual coach for users playing the video game 'Minecraft.' They also showcased the 'Recall' feature, which helps AI remember and find files and other data the user has seen on the PC.

The Copilot+ PC starts at $999, with pre-orders beginning on the same day and a release scheduled for the 18th of next month.

Yusuf Mehdi, MS's head of Windows and chief marketing officer for consumers, said, "We expect AI PCs to sell 50 million units next year."

Ben Bajarin, a creative strategy analyst, stated, "It is necessary to ensure that consumers feel confident purchasing the new category of 'Copilot+ PC' based solely on the device experience."
