Bride Wearing 3D Dress at Wedding
"It Was Hard to Hold Back Tears When I Wore the Dress for the First Time"
The bride who wore the world's first '3D printed dress' at her wedding has become a hot topic.
Foreign media such as the New York Post reported on the 17th that Dutch designer Iris van Herpen created a wedding dress using a 3D printer. The dress's owner is Brazilian lawyer Mariana Favani, who recently held her wedding wearing this dress. Van Herpen said, "3D printed fashion can be seen on runways and such, but having someone wear it on the most special day of their life is even more special."
This wedding dress took 600 hours just to shape, and 41 hours to print. The wedding dress file size was 216.7MB.
For the perfect dress fit, the bride Favani underwent a 3D body scan herself, and the designer crafted the dress folds by hand. Favani said, "I wanted a unique and unusual dress," adding, "From the beginning, I hoped the dress would incorporate 3D printing." It is said that Favani's husband, an art collector and composer, introduced her to Van Herpen.
Van Herpen said this dress expresses 'cutting-edge' and 'femininity.' She also mentioned that the dress is made from lightweight nylon material, making it comfortable to wear and requiring no special care or handling. She said, "Even over time, the material's flexibility does not deteriorate."
Favani, who was the first in the world to wear a 3D dress at her wedding, said, "I found it hard to hold back tears when I first wore the 'masterpiece' dress," adding, "I was able to achieve everything I wished for. The wedding dress design gave a strong and feminine impression and was a very unique look."
Van Herpen is known for creating delicate and unique works using synthetic materials with 3D printers. In the past, she exhibited a piece known as the 'Skeleton Dress' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Van Herpen said, "We believe fashion is a form of art," adding, "(3D printing) adds 'freedom' to fashion and opens new paths for designs that cannot be made by hand."
