Minimizing Cost Burden for Restaurant Owners Using the Platform
Previously Acquired Delivery App Burung Operator in April Last Year
hy (formerly Korea Yakult) has thrown down the gauntlet in the delivery app market. In a market firmly dominated by the three giants Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo, and Coupang Eats, hy plans to increase its market share by offering the lowest commission fees.
According to the food industry on the 20th, hy plans to pilot operate the platform 'Knowk,' which provides local delivery services, starting in June.
Ahead of the delivery app launch, hy is attracting partner stores with the slogan, "Store owners, just prepare the food; hy Knowk will take responsibility for store promotion."
hy places 'collaboration with local commercial districts' as a core value and aims to minimize the cost burden for restaurant owners using the platform. Accordingly, it has decided not to charge restaurant owners fixed costs, advertising fees, or membership fees.
The commission fee is set at an industry-low level of 5.8%.
Currently, since the three major delivery apps?Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, and Yogiyo?are offering free delivery, hy will also deliver food free of charge to customers without any minimum order amount restrictions.
Through the delivery app, hy plans to recommend and introduce popular restaurants from its own 11,000 Fresh Managers.
This delivery app launch is part of efforts to evolve into a distribution-specialized company.
To establish a new business model, hy acquired Mesh Korea, the operator of the delivery app 'Booroong,' in April last year. The acquisition price was 80 billion KRW, with hy securing 66.7% of Mesh Korea's shares and becoming the largest shareholder.
At the time of acquisition, hy announced plans to combine Mesh Korea's logistics system to strengthen service competitiveness and build a business model that enhances synergy between the two companies.
