On the 27th at 10 AM, over 200 attendees including daycare and elementary students gathered at the Yangjaecheon Yeongdong 4-gyo Underpass Riverside Rice Farming Learning Center
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold a traditional hand rice planting experience event on the 27th from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Yangjaecheon Rice Farming Learning Center (near Yeongdong 4 Bridge).
About 200 participants including daycare children, elementary school students, and residents taking part in the Yangjaecheon ecological learning program, Little Farmer School, will experience planting rice seedlings themselves by placing seedling lines in a 1410㎡ rice paddy. The rice planted that day will be harvested in the fall and sent to local social welfare organizations. A traditional autumn harvest experience event will also be held during the rice harvest.
In addition, various side events recreating traditional rural scenes have been prepared. Before the main rice planting, a lively performance by a traditional Samulnori percussion band will enhance the atmosphere. After the rice planting, traditional play experiences such as hoop rolling, Tuho (arrow throwing), and rope jumping will be offered to elementary school students. A photo exhibition capturing the beauty of Yangjaecheon through the four seasons will also be held.
The district operates various programs year-round to allow people to experience the value of Yangjaecheon, an ecological stream. In addition to the Little Farmer School, there are programs such as ‘Saengsaeng Playground Yangjaecheon’ and ‘Yangjaecheon Green Exploration Team’ for observing and experiencing the ecology of Yangjaecheon; ‘Yangjaecheon Environmental Classroom,’ which focuses on lectures and field trips emphasizing the value of natural stream restoration; and ‘Happy Talk Talk Green Saturday,’ a weekend program for families. Those who wish to participate can make reservations on the Seoul Public Service Reservation Service website.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “I hope this will be an opportunity for children living in the city to experience the fading rural culture and appreciate the value of harvest. We will take good care of the planted seedlings and nurture them into strong rice plants so that everyone can enjoy the joy of the autumn harvest.”
