Resident Autonomous Quarantine Team Launch Ceremony Held on the 25th of Last Month... Comprising 140 Members from 18 Neighborhoods
Health Center Quarantine Teams (2 Groups, 6 Members) Operate Regularly to Create a Pleasant Gangdong-gu Environment
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Suhee) announced on the 21st that it will officially operate a resident autonomous quarantine team consisting of 140 members from 18 neighborhoods to prevent infectious diseases and control sanitary pests such as mosquitoes.
The resident autonomous quarantine team, composed of residents who are well acquainted with the local area, conducts disinfection mainly in vulnerable areas such as residential alleys, markets, and parks. The team started its activities with an inauguration ceremony on the 25th of last month and plans to operate for about six months until October.
Before the inauguration ceremony, the district conducted preliminary training to ensure the safe operation of the resident autonomous quarantine team. On that day, On Han-gi, head of the Gangdong-Hanam branch of Cesco Co., a local pest control company, was invited as an instructor to provide training on the characteristics of major sanitary pests, the correct use of disinfectants and equipment, and safety rules.
After the training, the distribution of quarantine supplies and safety protective gear was also carried out, completing preparations before the full-scale activities began.
In addition, Gangdong-gu has established an eco-friendly disinfection promotion plan and is doing its best to prevent infectious diseases caused by sanitary pests. The public health center operates a separate disinfection team (2 groups, 6 members) and conducts disinfection every month focusing on vulnerable areas.
In particular, to respond to mosquitoes that cause various infectious diseases such as malaria and Japanese encephalitis, during the summer season (May to October), fogging disinfection is conducted to control adult mosquitoes, and during the winter season (November to April), larvicides are sprayed in larval habitats such as sewage around apartment complexes, maintaining a continuous disinfection system.
Lee Suhee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “I sincerely thank the residents who participate in disinfection activities every year for the health and safety of Gangdong-gu,” and added, “This year as well, we will do our best to create a pleasant Gangdong-gu through various disinfection activities, including the resident autonomous quarantine team’s efforts.”
